Steven Choi received a BA in psychology from UCLA and his JD from Hastings College of the Law. Before opening his law firm, Mr. Choi clerked for the San Mateo County Superior Court and the Alameda County Superior Court.

California Court of Appeal rules that a tortfeasor must pay the full amount of the plaintiff's medical bills even if the medical provider accepted a lesser amount from plaintiff's insurance company as payment in full. Wood v. Allen, Commissioner, Alabama Department of Corrections. US Supreme Court Case No. 08-9156. In an opinion by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the Supreme Court has upheld a death sentence for an Alabama inmate who claimed his counsel was ineffective for failing to introduce evidence of his low IQ.

Covington & Burling has asked a federal judge on Tuesday to grant summary judgment in the closely watched race discrimination suit against the firm. The case is Yolanda Young v. Covington & Burling.

Charlene Thornton, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Honolulu Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is cautioning Honolulu’s legal community to be on alert for fraud schemes focused upon local attorneys. Over the past six weeks, the FBI has received reports of six different Honolulu law firms targeted in schemes with aggregate reported losses exceeding $500,000.
