Google Inc. violated the Wire Tap Act by collecting data from Unencrypted Networks.

Government sued Google, Inc. because Google's vehicles, in addition to capturing 'street view' photographs, were collecting data from unencrypted Wi-Fi networks. The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal held: Google's conduct violated the Wiretap Act, and no exemption applied because the network owners had not encrypted their Wi-Fi network.
