Travis Jacobs

Travis is the Founding & Managing Partner of The Jacobs Law. He is admitted to practice law in (1) Supreme Court of the United States, (2) Federal District Court of Massachusetts, (3) Federal First Circuit Court of Appeals, and (4) Supreme Judicial Court in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Travis' main practice areas include: Business & Corporate Law, Contracts, Transactional work, Business Litigation and Appeals. He has litigated a number of business-related matters (as legal counsel for the plaintiff and defendant) in civil lawsuits before the Superior Court’s Business Litigation Session. He has served as counsel in multiple class action cases involving violations of the Massachusetts Wage Act, violations of law involving fees charged for medical record requests, and consumer claims for deceptive business practices. He also has experience litigating federal Lanham Act claims for false and/or misleading product advertising, trademark infringement and defamation. He recently succeeded in an arbitration case on behalf of an investor who had claims for fraud against a franchise corporation and its founders/investment promoters. Travis has been a Member of the Committee for Public Counsel Services’ Criminal Appeals and Post-Convictions Panel for nearly 6 years. As a CPCS Panelist, Travis represents indigent defendants on appellate matters and drafts appellate briefs and Requests for Further Appellate Review for submission to the Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court. He has appeared for oral arguments on numerous cases before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court. Some notable CPCS Appeals include Commonwealth v. Miller, 78 Mass.App.Ct. 860 (2011), where a motorist was stopped because a rear-view camera obscured the phrase “Spirit of America” on his license plate. The defendant was arrested for OUI. On appeal, the Court held that the trooper had based his stop on a mistake of law, namely, the entirely erroneous belief that a stripe on the defendant’s license plate violated 540 Code Mass. Regs. § 2.23(3). Travis also argued for the Defendant before the Supreme Judicial Court in Commonwealth v Heather Duncan, an appeal that received national recognition for its impact on Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure and animal rights in Massachusetts. Travis filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari with the United States Supreme Court seeking review of the SJC’s decision in Duncan, but the case has since resolved. Travis has been selected by SuperLawyers to the Massachusetts Rising Stars for the last 3 consecutive years (2013, 2014 and 2015) in recognition of his Business Litigation skills. He is an Executive Board Member of Starting Out Solo, a non-profit organization that assists and provides intellectual capital resources to attorneys that start a solo law practice directly out of law school. He is also a multi-year member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. Travis is also active on AVVO.com, has been a Featured Attorney for Business Law on AVVO.com since 2012, and has earned Client Choice and Top Contributor Awards in Business and Contracts in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
