Damon worked with Student Legal Services during his three years at law school. He started as a volunteer caseworker and was hired for two consecutive summers as a Criminal Law Project Dayleader. His responsibilities included training and supervising teams of volunteers who represented hundreds of people charged with various crimes. During his time at SLS, Damon realized that the justice system is flooded with marginalized people—people who are victims of circumstances beyond their control. His experience confirmed that, at least for Damon, there is no higher calling than criminal defence work.
