Slavin not only gained invaluable training and trial experience, but also developed a reputation as a skilled trial attorney. During his six year tenure as an Assistant State Attorney, he held the following positions: He was the South County Traffic Court Attorney, a misdemeanor Lead Trial Attorney, a misdemeanor and felony Domestic Violence Attorney, a felony Child Abuse Attorney and a felony Sex Crimes Attorney. During his last 3.5 years at the State Attorney's Office, he was part of a select group of prosecutors that made up the Office's DUI Manslaughter Squad. In this role, he was able to investigate and prosecute many traffic fatality cases including DUI Manslaughters and Vehicular Homicides. During his last two years at the State Attorney's Office, he worked under a federal grant establishing and leading the Office's Gang Prosecution Unit.
