Michael Garvin joined Sheuerman, Martini & Tabari in 1997 and became a partner in the firm in 2003. Even before coming to the firm, he already had several years experience litigating professional negligence actions throughout Northern California, from Santa Barbara County to Shasta County. He has continued to specialize in representing physicians, hospitals, long-term care facilities, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Mr. Garvin has represented physicians, hospitals, nurses, therapists, and other health care professionals in hundreds of professional liability claims. He has also represented physicians during investigations by the Medical Board of California and has participated in medical-legal peer review conferences throughout Northern California. He has worked extensively with several major professional liability companies, including Beta Healthcare Group, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals / The Permanente Medical Group, The Doctor's Company, Medical Insurance Exchange of California and Claremont Liability Company, Octagon Risk Services and The Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Since coming to SM&T, he has represented Stanford Hospital and Clinics in dozens of medical negligence actions, and represented its physicians and allied healthcare providers at depositions in many other actions. In addition to litigation, Mr. Garvin has handled multiple appeals, and has experience representing physicians during investigations conducted by the Medical Board of California. He has lectured physicians on medical malpractice and risk management issues, and has participated in drafting medical office and hospital policies and procedures. Mr. Garvin obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1984, and his law degree from the University of California at Davis School of Law in 1988. He is admitted to practice in all state courts in California and in the U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Eastern Districts of California. He is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association.
