Sheuerman Martini & Tabari
Susan Fish joined Sheuerman, Martini & Tabari in December, 2001, after devoting the first five years of her legal career solely to the defense of medical malpractice cases. Mrs. Fish's initial career was in the field of medicine after graduating from the last class of O'Connor Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Santa Clara . Choosing to commence her nursing career in the field of labor and delivery at Good Samaritan Hospital, she floated among the labor and delivery/postpartum/nursery units to the ER, Medical/Surgical, Pediatric ICU, ICU, and CCU, gaining a broad spectrum of experience in nursing practice. Fascinated by medical-legal issues, Mrs. Fish enrolled in law school at Lincoln Law School of San Jose, graduating in 1995. She has worked cooperatively with several major professional liability carriers including Norcal Mutual Insurance Company, Doctor's Company, Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), Medical Insurance Exchange of California (MIEC), Cooperative of American Physicians/Mutual Protection Trust (CAP/MPT), Program Beta, SCPIE, and with the providers at Stanford and various Sutter Medical Centers . As outside counsel for Stanford Hospital & Clinics Mrs. Fish has interacted with the staff in the Psychiatric Units, representing the unit/physicians at Writ hearings, Court-Ordered ECT and obtaining Restraining Orders. Vaden Health Center and the numerous issues presented by the students/patients also offered interesting medical and legal challenges. It was however with the Legislature's passage of the Elder Abuse Act and litigants' allegations of neglect as to medical care providers in order to circumvent MICRA, that has brought perhaps even greater challenges. As a medical care provider, Ms. Fish has a strong personal interest in defending physicians, nurses and hospitals against frivolous claims of elder and dependent adult abuse. Rewarding personally to Mrs. Fish are her interactions with the California Board of Registered Nursing, and facilitating the reinstatement of Nurses to enable them to practice their profession in the State of California . Mrs. Fish is a member of the State Bar of California, the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and is admitted to practice in the superior courts in the State of California , as well as the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. She maintains an active license with the California Board of Registered Nursing.Cyrus Tabari specializes in the defense of hospitals, physicians and other health care providers in litigation cases ranging from personal injury to staff privileges to employment issues. Over the years he has handled hundreds of cases covering a wide range of medical and nursing specialties and issues. He has tried cases in nearly every Bay Area county and in 1992 tried the first case in Santa Clara County, and was the first medical malpractice case in the county, to be televised by the Court T.V. network.
