Marshall Hopkins

Marshall Hopkins has been practicing criminal law as both a defence lawyer and prosecutor for over twenty years, dealing with all manner of serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, drug conspiracy and massive frauds. Graduating from the University of Alberta law school in 1994 he articled and practiced for many years with renowned Edmonton criminal lawyer Alexander Pringle. He rounded out his practice with seven years at Alberta Justice before returning to criminal defence law. He has enjoyed a successful appellate practice at all levels of court in Canada.

He has many years experience prosecuting and defending high-profile cases in the area of occupational health and safety.

For years Marshall has worked closely with Elders and leaders of Alberta’s First Nations, both as a prosecutor and defence lawyer, striving to make justice more accessible and meaningful to a people ravaged by colonialism, residential schools and systemic racism. He continues to build a practice on values that acknowledge the unique character of Canada’s First Nations and the critical importance of justice for aboriginal men and women.
