L. James Ashmore

Neal, Ashmore & Killebrew

Jim has extensive experience in the area of family and elder law, having tried over 100 divorce, custody and contested probate cases, as well as being appointed by the Courts in Denton and Dallas counties to present the interests of children-both as an attorney ad litem and amicus attorney. Jim's philosophy in family law matters is simple-to try and reach an amicable resolution with minimal disruption to the family, but understanding that this cannot always be accomplished without court intervention. After dealing with the final illnesses of his parents, Jim became acutely aware of the problems facing older adults and recognized the need to provide legal services to the elderly.

Jim was born in Hanford, California August 22, 1960. Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications from Oral Roberts University, and spent over 12 years in the radio broadcasting industry, both on-air and in station management. Jim became interested in the real estate profession, and sold residential and commercial properties in Northeastern Oklahoma in the mid to late 1980's. It was during this time that Jim decided to attend law school, which he began in 1989 while maintaining full-time employment to support his family. Jim received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in December, 1992, and was a visiting scholar at the Southern Methodist University Law School in 1990-1991. Jim has been admitted to the practice of law in Texas (1993), and the District of Columbia (1994). He is also admitted to practice in the Federal District Court of the Northern District of Texas, and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Jim has been admitted Pro hac vice and conducted trials in Oklahoma on several occasions. He is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and the District of Columbia Bar.
