Jared Laskin

Jared Laskin is a California business lawyer with a particular interest in the legal problems of unmarried couples. With over 19 years of experience, Mr. Laskin works with clients on general business matters, business litigation, bringing and defending 'palimony' suits, and drafting and review of cohabitation agreements, premarital agreements and domestic partnership agreements. Mr. Laskin is AV Peer Review Rated (highest possible rating) by the Martindale Hubbell attorney directory, meaning that his legal ability is rated 'Very High to Preeminent.' Prior to becoming a sole practitioner in 2004, Mr. Laskin was a partner with the Century City law firm of Goldman & Kagon. It was at Goldman & Kagon – the firm that represented actor Lee Marvin in the seminal “palimony” case of Marvin v. Marvin – that Mr. Laskin first began handling litigation of disputes between unmarried couples. Mr. Laskin helped make new law in the area of Marvin law by writing the winning brief for the Defendant in the case of Bergen v. Wood (1993) 14 Cal.App.4th 854. Mr. Laskin appeared on the cover of the October, 1994 issue of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine for his article on palimony law entitled 'Just Pals.' He is also co-author of the chapter on Marvin claims included in the 1995 Family Law Reference Book, published by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Laskin served for several years as an Editor of the Beverly Hills Bar Journal, and has served as a volunteer Arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Judicial Arbitration Program and the Beverly Hills Bar Association Mandatory Fee Arbitration Program. Mr. Laskin received his B.A. degree in 1983 from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was made a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1987, where he was made a member of the Order of the Coif (an honorary scholastic society recognizing law students who have attained a high level of scholarship).
